Resources for Pathways Data Analysis

The pages below provide in-depth information on how to access Pathways data, survey methods, the full survey instrument, SAS and SPSS codebooks to assist with data analysis, and more.

• Request a Pathways dataset: The Pathways dataset includes all variables from the Pathways public-use data files. All indicators in the Pathways dataset can also be viewed our interactive data query. The "details" link on each data query page provides more information on each variable's numerator, denominator, revisions, methods notes, treatment of unknown variables, and history. Please sign and attach the user agreement form when submitting your request.

• Survey methodology: Learn more information about the Pathways design, sampling, and administration. The following resources are important to understand the methods used to collect the Pathways survey data. The Pathways’ administration processes are detailed in a one-page diagram created by the CAHMI. Detailed guides from the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) on the sampling and data collection procedures for the Pathways survey and its parent survey, the NS-CSHCN, are also available below.

• Full-length survey instrument: 2011 Pathways Full Length Instruments are available in English. The full-length Pathways survey instruments below were administered with Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) technology and via a self-administered questionnaire.

• SAS and SPSS codebooks: These codebooks provide documentation and SPSS/SAS program statements used in the development of variables and subgroups featured in the data query for the Pathways. Its purpose is to serve as a resource for researchers and analysts interested in understanding how these measures are conceptualized, constructed, and interpreted. The DRC’scodebooks provide the SPSS or SAS syntax and documentation used to create Pathways indicators and subgroups displayed on the interactive data query.
